SWJTU Appoints Distinguished Expert Dou Yong as Part-Time Professor and Hosts Special Lecture on Urban Underground Infrastructure

June 6, 2025 | Chengdu—School of Economics and Management (SEM) officially appointed Mr. Dou Yong as part-time professor during a ceremony, followed by an in-depth academic lecture on urban underground pipeline network construction.

Professor Han Ke, Dean of SEM, presided over the appointment ceremony and presented Mr. Dou with the letter of appointment. In his remarks, Professor Han highlighted Mr. Dou’s distinguished academic contributions, noting that his appointment would significantly strengthen SEM’s efforts to bridge theoretical scholarship with practical application.

Expressing gratitude for the honor, Mr. Dou Yong—Director of the Administrative Office at the China Center for International Economic Exchanges—stated his commitment to fostering collaborative exchanges with faculty and students at SWJTU. He emphasized the importance of integrating real-world insights into academic discourse.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Dou, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Accelerating the construction of urban underground pipeline networks to effectively drive national economic growth”.

In his presentation, he offered a comprehensive overview of the status of urban underground infrastructure development across China, identifying key bottlenecks related to planning coordination, investment mechanisms, and technological integration. Drawing on both domestic experiences and international best practices, Mr. Dou advocated for a holistic reform strategy aimed at building smarter, greener, safer, and more resilient underground systems.

He further proposed targeted policy recommendations in critical areas such as pricing mechanisms, centralized funding models, institutional innovation, and the promotion of large-scale pilot projects. His insights underscored the pivotal role of economic analysis in shaping sustainable urban development policies—a theme that resonated strongly with faculty and students in attendance.

This appointment reflects SEM’s ongoing commitment to expanding its network of high-level industry experts and enhancing interdisciplinary collaboration. By deepening ties between academia and practice, the school aims to cultivate future leaders equipped with both theoretical rigor and real-world problem-solving capabilities.
